How We Replaced 5 Damaged Sidewalk Slabs at 1752 Pacific Street, Brooklyn
October 14, 2026
Our crew completed a sidewalk replacement project at 1752 Pacific Street in Brooklyn, located in the Crown Heights/Weeksville area. The property is a three-story, early-20th-century mixed-use building with residential units and a ground-floor commercial space.
Years of regular foot traffic and general wear and tear had taken a toll on sections of the concrete sidewalk along the property frontage. Five sidewalk slabs had become damaged and deteriorated, creating an uneven walking surface for residents, customers, visitors, and pedestrians passing along the street.
Our goal was straightforward: remove the damaged concrete sections and replace them with a new, smooth, and consistent sidewalk surface.
Preparing the Pacific Street Sidewalk for Replacement
Before demolition began, our team completed the required coordination for work within the public sidewalk area.
The project required an NYC DOT Sidewalk Repair Permit and Sidewalk Closing Permit, along with an 811 utility mark-out before excavation. These steps allowed the work area to be properly organized and helped identify any marked underground utilities before the existing concrete was removed.
Once the pre-construction requirements were completed, the work area was secured to separate pedestrians from the active construction zone and keep access to the surrounding property as safe as possible during the work.
Removing and Replacing 5 Damaged Sidewalk Slabs
The crew removed all five damaged sidewalk slabs affected by heavy foot traffic and general wear and tear.
After demolition, the exposed areas were prepared to provide a stable base for the replacement concrete. Forms were positioned to maintain proper slab boundaries and alignment with the existing sidewalk.
Fresh concrete was then placed and finished to create a level, durable pedestrian surface. Control joints were incorporated between the replacement sections to provide a clean and consistent finished appearance.
What Made This Brooklyn Sidewalk Project Different?
Unlike a large full-frontage replacement, this project focused on five specific damaged slabs along a mixed-use property with both residential and commercial activity.
The sidewalk receives regular foot traffic from people living in and visiting the building, as well as pedestrians traveling along Pacific Street. Instead of relying on temporary patching or surface repairs, the damaged slabs were removed completely and replaced with new concrete.
This approach addressed the deteriorated sections while restoring a more consistent walking surface along the affected portion of the frontage.
Project Outcome
The completed project replaced five damaged sidewalk slabs at 1752 Pacific Street with new concrete, creating a smoother and more uniform pedestrian surface.
The project cost was approximately $4,500, based on the scope of the five-slab replacement and associated work.
The project included removal of the damaged concrete, preparation of the affected areas, installation and finishing of new concrete, and the required permit and pre-construction coordination.
The finished sidewalk provides a cleaner and more functional frontage for residents, commercial occupants, visitors, and pedestrians using this section of Pacific Street.
